Our THANKS TO Christie Lites

Christie Logo Long

When JW Theatres took over the Blue Orange Theatre, our primary objective was to do the things we wished venues had done when we were starting in theatre. One of the main things we felt needed noticeable national improvement was the support venues give to new works and emerging artists. We were finally in a position to make real change for our community, but we realised we couldn't financially make the shift necessary by ourselves.

We reached out to many companies about working with us to create our vision; our vision of a theatre that doesn't just work for shareholders but works for the artists, audience and the wider community. We made it clear that this sponsorship idea was not about money, not just about making a show happen and not something which could generate a return on investment. It was about opportunity and support for the next generation of great actors, technicians and production staff, starting out in our theatre but going on to…who knows? How many people could our theatre help with a little support from our industry friends and colleagues. Within just 24 hours we had a reply from the “largest hire company in North America". Christie Lites shared our vision for a space to create, a space for artists and a space for nurturing talent through both our drama school "Midlands Academy of Musical Theatre" and our outreach work. This is a vision that reflects some of Christie Lites’ own goals and ethos; an ethos which resonates throughout the company from the very top, down.

Alex Johnson, Operations Director and General Manager for JW Theatres said:

"To say we set our ambitions high would be an understatement. Christie Lites were not only willing to help us achieve our goals but were willing to take a leap of faith with us. It is safe to say that without the support of the entire team at Christie Lites, we couldn't have achieved so much in such a short amount of time. We are on the road to creating a venue that celebrates new works and truly impacts our community. Are we there yet? Absolutely not. Would we be as close as we are now without the support of our partners? Nowhere near."

Our first year of business has, of course, been challenging. The Covid 19 pandemic has meant we have, like many other companies, gone over six months without any income. Much like us and hire companies all across the globe, Christie Lites will have had a vastly reduced workload. However, throughout the entire period of lockdown and to now their support has been without falter.

It is safe to say that we didn't just gain like-minded sponsors in the Christie Lites team, but we gained friends.

Theatre has not been without its challenges this year but we are still pushing forwards towards our goals, with the support of Christie Lites we can continue to make the change necessary within the Midlands.

Our sponsorship with Christie Lites allows us to bring the spectacular look of a commercial production to a studio venue but we now need your help in improving our sound. We have, this week, purchased a new PA allowing us to provide cleaner and crisper audio to our audiences. However, our sound desk is in urgent need of replacement after 20 years in operation all over the country.

To allow us to update this vital equipment and complete essential building works on the eve of The Blue Orange’s 10 year anniversary, we are raffling a prize we would be proud to win:
